2nd Day [29 Nov 2008] : Antwerp -> Brugge Day TripVisited : Hospital Museum, Christmas Promo, Basilica
On our second day in Brussels, we had a yummylicious home-cooked breakfast before going to the Antwerp Central Station.
We were heading to Brugge. :)

The train ride was only for 45 minutes.
Kinda fast. ;)
Or maybe it's 'cause Brugge was near? haha.
The moment we stepped out of the train station at Brugge, there was a delicious aroma sweeping through the air.
The smell was making me so darn hungry and I found that it came from a Hot Dog stand.
Well, of course we bought the hot dog. It was a MUST.
And let me tell you this, it was the most delicious hot dog I've tasted in my life. It's even better than 1901's hot dog.
The hot dog is crispy on the outside, soft and juicy on the inside..topped with fried juicy onions and placed into a soft hot dog bun..Not to mention the length of the hot dog. It's about 6 feet long. yuummyy... =)
I'm hungry just thinking about it.

The place we were heading to was just 15 minutes (walking distance) away.
When we arrive, the first thought that came to my mind was "wow! this looks like a christmas town!"
because everything was so well decorated, the houses looks really vintage and well, there's just this whole Christmas mood thing going on there. haha.

Almost every shop had their windows decorated like this. Beautiful :)

Most people were going around in carriages.
The horses are so BIG and FLUFFY there! Cuteness much!! =D
Sorry I couldn't get photos of the Hospital Museum. There was a gigantic sign indicating "NO photography" in many languages. =/
But..I have to say..
I'd rather DIE than to have an operation if I was sick in those days..cause there was these "doctor" tools which were used to dig your eye ball out, to screw in your skull..etc etc.
I can't believe it was even permitted without anesthetic?! OUCH.
It was pretty freaky, but it got me intrigued to find out more about the medical system in the ancient times.
Maybe I shall google about it when I'm free. haha. X)
After the hospital museum we went for lunch in a quaint restaurant..it felt so homely and the food aroma was delicious. I don't know how many times have I used the word delicious in this post but yeah, the food in Brugge was just fantastic. We ordered 2 buckets of Mussels in white wine, French stew and some bottles of water. There were also 2 big plates of free french fries which comes together with the Mussels. Arrgghhh...I'm making myself HUNGRY! (and my parents are not back with my dinner yet. Curses!)
Shall stop talking about food and start talking about OBJECTS instead.
After our lunch we walked to this Christmas promo thing which was held in some kinda mansion. They had plenty of christmas decorations for sale on the first floor and on the second floor they had some kinda beautiful array of christmas decoration competition in each hall.

Each hall had a theme. The picture above was taken in a christmas tree themed hall. They made ALL types of christmas trees. From the upside down christmas tree to the circular christmas tree, mini christmas tree to the really large christmas tree. Easier said, I've never seen christmas trees in such peculiar shapes and sizes before.
Other themes were the circle hall, where everything in it was circular, coloured themes such as white, red, etc etc. Flower themes, music themes. There's so many, I lost track.
After ooo-ing and aaahh-ing in the mansion, we came out to do some light shopping.
Tried to find our way to the Basalica but when we finally found it, the basilica was closed. It was only 6pm!! :( It wasn't easy to find it because the place was HUGE. We had to walk all around and ask people the directions. Not to forget the stops we made at the shops. Oh well. Maybe next time. =/

The exterior of the Basalica.
They supposedly have some of Jesus's blood stored inside and is extremely sacred to them.

By the time we had to go home, I was already getting a lil tired from the walking we had to do..but it was a fun experience in Brugge. So, all the walking..was definitely worth it. ;)
